Victoria University ? is it the best place to do law?

ive been thinking of going to this uni .... but what do you think ? is it any good ? is it internationaly recognised ? is it the best place in New Zealand to get a law degree ... e.t.c

what do you think ???Victoria University ? is it the best place to do law?
Oh I am not sure. I would look at the law school, visit the campus, talk to profs and students. Check out who has graduated from this school and if it makes a difference in employment and income. This process would be the same at any school you were considering. Here, in the States, there are prestige schools, like Harvard or Uof M. I am sure it is the same where you live. Also, consider, the type of law you want to practice. Does this school offer you the opportunities that you desire?. Good luck. Law is a wonderful education, oh and my son is a lawyer! Moth
My son went to Michigan State University. It's a very good school, not highly regarded in law. The program is new. Seth love's the law, but he is saddled with student loans totaling over 150,000. He does a lot of court appointed work, and likes it very much. Thanks for your comments. Moth

I do believe in New Zealand it is one of the best Law schools. I would hope that you made the best choice. I googled some of the schools in new zealand and i looked at the curricular i think it is the best one from my Research.
never heard of it, but I'm not really sure you want to "Do" law. You know what I mean? You might want to "practice" it instead because Miss Justice may just get her granny panties all up into a bunch, if you'd try to do her!Victoria University ? is it the best place to do law?
victoria u is a great school

studying law there would be an amazing experience

good luck:)
no. Harvard Law is the best. Have you not seen LEGALLY BLONDE? Obama?? Need I say more? There ya go.

Is it hard that transfer from Australia to an American University?

I am a Chinese freshman studying in a joint university of China and Australia. 2 years later, I will go to Victoria University in Australia to study. But the VU is at the bottom of all of Australian universities, so I want to transfer to an American university after I go to Australia. I have a IELTS 6. I want to know is it very hard?Is it hard that transfer from Australia to an American University?
with IELTS6 u may stand a chance. but its hard to say. u hv to apply to the uni in usa and they will decide. its much better to pass 1st yr exams then apply. your credibility and performance will be better and they may accept u into 2nd yr. if u were to go now they may ask u to sit for APs, SATS which maybe troublesome. if u excel in victoria, any employer will accept u. its your grades and aptitude and attitude that count - not the uni

How much do university courses cost in Melbourne, Australia?

Specifically, health sciences/bio medicine.

Looking to study at either:

La Trobe

University of Melbourne

Deakin

Victoria university

Thanks. How much do university courses cost in Melbourne, Australia?
G'day,

Unfortunately you do not give a complete info such as for undergrad/postgrad and whether you are asking for international or Australian students.

If you are international student, the best way is to go to the online database that I mentioned below. It is a one stop shop, where you can browse for all the courses available in Victoria (the state where Melbourne is the capital city) or even all over Australia. It will give you the website, as well as the annual tuition fee.

Hope that helps. Good luck.

Look them up in the Official MBA Guide. It's a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, executive, and accelerated), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. Schools provide data on entrance requirements, program costs, program characteristics, joint degrees, and much more. Is University of Victoria a good school?

in British Columbia? what it like living there? Is University of Victoria a good school?
I have a few friends who live in Victoria. One has been there for 15 years and calls it Utopia. The climate is close to that of Seattle, but it's an island and there are beautiful rolling hills and mountains on the horizon on the mainland. There are dozens of other islands to explore, each offering something special - like Saltspring Island and it's Artsy/Hippy/Music residents, whale watching, beautiful gardens and just across the way from Vancouver-a large, beautiful modern metropolis. Though not quite as top notch as the University of British Columbia, Univ of Vic would run a close second. I would go for it, for sure!

Are all the colleges at the University of Toronto equal? Or are some better than others?

I picked my college selection at random at landed at St. Michael's, though I had no previous knowledge of it's atmosphere beforehand. I like it's rich tradition and culture, though I hear Trinity College and Victoria University are better in terms of academics and are more "elite", per se. I didn't apply to the University of Toronto just to be placed in some categorical hierarchy...so are all the colleges relatively the same or are some better than others? Are all the colleges at the University of Toronto equal? Or are some better than others?
They each have their own personality, history and traditions.

Some of them were originally established as schools related to religious groups. Trinity is Anglican (aka, Church of England or Episcopalian), Vic is United Church of Canada, St Mikes is Roman Catholic. University College was established for people not associated with one of those. I'm not sure why New College exists. Innis is very progressive. The coolest people will go there. Woodsworth was established as the college for part time students; they tend to have more evening courses.

Each also has specific programs that are loosely related to them. Vic is known for Semiotics, literature and classics. Margaret Atwood got her undergrad degree at Vic. Innis has film studies and environmental studies. I'm not sure about the rest.

Which college you belong to isn't that big a deal. You can take any arts and science course regardless of which college you belong to. If I were going again I would either choose Innis or Vic.

Trinity likes to think it is the best. It is the most difficult to get into. I wouldn't want to go there. If you are a right wing nut, rich, selfish ****, Trinity is the place for you.Are all the colleges at the University of Toronto equal? Or are some better than others?
    No way. Trinity Rules.

University of Victoria VS Vancouver Island University?

I have several programs I am interested in:

    psychology

    sociology

    philosophy

    environmental studies

    anthropology

    visual arts

    creative writing

For each of these programs, which school do you think has the better program? I live a province away and it's hard to tell through the websites...University of Victoria VS Vancouver Island University?
Hello. As a recruiter for VIU and a graduate of the BA program here I can tell you a bit about the programs and how to help find out more about the differing options. As a student, I took classes in Psych, Philosophy, Art and Art History and Creative Writing and I loved all of them. I had profs that were really passionate about what they were teaching and loved engaging in great discussions about the content. For the most part, classes here are around 28-34 students so you really have an opportunity to get to know the students in your classes and the profs as well. That was my favourite part. Your profs also get to know you which sometimes means that if you're slacking off, they notice. But for me it meant more of a challenge. I had one prof hand back a paper and tell me that he knew I could do better and asked for a re-write - I got an A in the class. I still see him around and he checks in to see if I'm still challenging myself. Another one of my former profs also taught me sister and when I run into her she always asks how my sis is doing.

I can tell you about the interesting opportunities within a number of the programs but most of it is online as well. For example, that we have an art gallery where students showcase their work every year; or that we have a literary magazine called The Portal where media and creative writing students have an opportunity to be published; or that our psych program has a number of research labs where students have an opportunity to do some really cool research with faculty (the anxiety lab and intrusive thoughts lab are my favourites).

Sometimes the best way to get a feel for a program is to get in touch with a prof or two in the program area and try to get a feel for them; I would happy to get you in touch with a few here on campus if you are interested.

Another way to look at what the programs are about is to check out stories on what students in the program areas are doing. I'll include links to a few below.

If there's anything else I can do to help, please don't hesitate to contact me: joanna.hesketh@viu.ca

Is the University of Victoria in BC, Canada open during Remembrance Day?

Im a new student at UVic and I am not sure whether to go to school tommorow or notIs the University of Victoria in BC, Canada open during Remembrance Day?
Well, I am not sure where adamr81 and old lady are from but I hope that you did not try and attend classes at UVIC on the 11th. Remembrance Day is a statutory holiday and, as such, all classes at UVIC were cancelled for the day as stated in the UVIC calendar:

"Classes are cancelled on all statutory holidays and during reading breaks. Administrative offices and academic departments are closed on all statutory holidays and during winter break. Holidays that fall on a weekend are observed on the following Monday."
I hope you went to school today, because today is Remembrance Day, not tomorrow. You will probably have noticed that there was a remembrance day service on campus, but that school carried on as usual, except for the two-minute silence. Is the University of Victoria in BC, Canada open during Remembrance Day?
Well first of all Remembrance Day is today not tomorrow. And unfortunately Remembrance Day is not yet a holiday so yes everything is open.
I'm not sure about UVic, but Jeff's answer is reasonable.

In Ontario, it is not a statutory holiday. So we still have school on Remembrance Day.'

Happy Remembrance Day =)Is the University of Victoria in BC, Canada open during Remembrance Day?

Student Life at University of Victoria?

I'm a senior in high school and am trying to make my big college decision. I was wondering about University of Victoria in Canada and it's student life. I've heard there's no frats or sororities, but do students still party? whats the social scene like at Uvic?

I've also been wondering about the different social groups that exist there, is it mostly bros and hoes like a big american college?Student Life at University of Victoria?
If you are not a Canadian, then you need to apply as a foreign student and be accepted. Fees are also six times that which a Canadian would pay. You also need a student visa and you are not able to work in Canada while attending school.

Most Canadian universities do not have large frats or sororities. Victoria isn't a big party town. It's main industries are tourism, government, and retired folks. I suppose UVic echos that. Great place for an education with some great facilities, campus, and programs, but you typically won't find lots of massive keggers. While students do have parties, the drinking age is 19 in BC, some pubs and bars are known as 'student bars', and downtown does have several clubs. That said, a lot of activities offered tend to involve less partying -- beaches, lakes, hiking, sports, clubs, kayaking, etc.

UBC (University of British Columbia) and SFU (Simon Fraser University) in Vancouver are known as better party universities.Student Life at University of Victoria?
There is a lot of partying there, especially in the cluster housing units. Tuition is three times as high for international students. I paid about 1,500 per class. International students can work on campus. they can work off campus under exceptional circumstances.

University of British Columbia or University of Victoria?

which one do you prefer thinking of campus, residence, education and city wise?University of British Columbia or University of Victoria?
I did my undergrad at UBC, but know Victoria very very well and have taken courses at UVic. I feel that UVic's smaller size means a higher quality undergrad experience - it is also relaxed and easy to interact with faculty. I found UBC to just have too many undergrads in the larger programs (Science etc), huge sections - I found it very impersonal, not uber social, and if it weren't for the awesome people I lived with I doubt I would have survived. For grad school, both universities have an excellent reputation.

City-wise, Vancouver wins for being Vancouver (it would win against a lot of big cities) - but downtown is a 30-40 minute bus ride from campus, so it is more of a once-in-a while thing, and the area surrounding the university is okay. Same for UVic - which is located in a municipality called Saanich, about a 30 minute bus ride from downtown Victoria. Having said that Victoria is near to tops for any mid-sized city in North America and the city proper ( vs Saanich, Oak Bay) has a vibe that is more in line with larger cities, including a bit of the grit. Victoria is quite dense (people per hectare), has a good theatre scene, pretty good transit, some great dining options, and some phenomenal outdoor opportunities (especially with a car). Victoria also has some cool little neighbourhood villages - James Bay, Cook Street Village, Fernwood. There is plenty going on in the community.

Costwise, Vancouver is a tad more expensive than Victoria.

Weatherwise (Vancouverites will dispute this) Vancouver gets 100 days more of precipitation per year than Victoria... it happens mostly during the school year which can make it very very grey. Summer is another story. Victoria is dryer and less grey.

Campus UBC feels like U of T, big buildings, streets, but next to the ocean and away from downtown. UVic campus is grassy and spread out.

If I had to do it again, I would have gone to UVic for my undergrad - and maybe taken a summer semester at UBC justUniversity of British Columbia or University of Victoria?
My cousin just started in September at UBC and he loves it, and he's from Australia. I go to VIU. Much smaller than both UBC and UVIC, but I have been to both campuses many times. I prefer UBC. For one, I just like the city of Vancouver much more than Victoria. Keep in mind Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in Canada to live in, though Victoria is not much cheaper! In the end though, they're both great schools, and I guess it would also depend on how good the programs you're interested in taking are. Good luck, whichever you choose =)

Indiana University, Victoria's Secret Collegiate Line?

On the 30th, the Colleges that were chosen hit Victoria''s Secret.

However, I know that each state only got in the clothes from the selected from their state.

Example: I live in New Jersey and we only got in Rutgers.

And online, there were only 3 things available for Rutgers; a hoodie, a pair of pants, and a t-shirt. But in Victoria's Secret there was TONS of Rutgers items.

Now I personally want to go to Indiana University.

So, if you don't live in Indiana you probably can't answer this.

But I wanted to know if that was the case with Indiana University.

Did Victoria's Secret over there get in more than they have on line?

(they have the same 3 items online as Rutgers by the way!)

And if you can remember, what exactly did they have?

Thanks!Indiana University, Victoria's Secret Collegiate Line?
They only have sweats, t-shirts, and hoodies. You can buy them all online. I have seen different sweats then the ones they had online, which were much cuter than the ones they have. They only have it at one mall that is not that close to me so far, so I have not got to see the whole line. But anyways, hope that helps! GO HOOSIERS!Indiana University, Victoria's Secret Collegiate Line?
The newer schools to the collection are going to have less than some of the other schools. The ones that have been recently added only have the t-shirt, hoodie and pants while the original schools have more of a selection. Just give it time for the collection to expand

No, compared to some other universities in B.C., UVic is less competitive and easier to get into. However, their admission requirements vary depending on which faculty you apply for. An 85% average is a safe target, but you might be able to be accepted into some programs with a mid-70s average.

  • Master of Professional Accountancy - Victoria University of Wellington?

I am a management student. I am completing the Master of Management studies degree (Finance major) from a college affiliated to Mumbai University. These days the job scenario in India for Finance students is not so good, especially those who graduate from "Not So Famous Colleges". The salary levels are also dismal. So, Many of my friends suggested me the study abroad option. Since I am a masters student in India (17 years education complete) I am eligible to pursue a masters degree abroad.

Recently I came across the "Master of Professional Accountancy from Victoria University of Wellington". I read on their website that this course enables students to get a Chartered Accountant designation in New Zealand giving them many opportunities to work further in New Zealand and Australia. I found this to be lucrative but am confused.

Is this degree really promising for outside students like me? How is the job scenario for Accountants, because I heard that the finance industry in New Zealand had taken a hit after recession, since it is a small country?

Kindly help me to take a decision. Is it good for a Indian postgraduate like me to go abroad to study now, considering the Indian economy?Master of Professional Accountancy - Victoria University of Wellington?
this is good opportunity. seize it if u can. dont worry about job market. there will be plenty after graduation. its bad and its cyclical so it will be good again. dont worry too much on future. there's a shortage of a/ctants in the world. a chance to get out of india, if u're contemplating

if u're paranoid then choose another course

    Go for massey
Being a Canterbury girl, my impression of Massey University is that its famous for producing vets (and I was told the other day its becoming a leader in sports science) and Victoria was for Law. I don't know what other strengths it has...I too would place Victoria over Massey unless you are doing the strength subject.Massey University vs Victoria University of Wellington?
What are you doing your PhD in? Some universities are slightly better at one over the other.

Regardless though, I'd choose Victoria University.

EDIT- Massey generally has a bad reputation. I can tell you that from working there and from the outside too! Bay of Plenty is still in high school, she has no idea!

It all depends what course you want to get into.

    Courses like accountancy have restrictions.

Often a general arts degree is easier to get into.

Most colleges do not allow animals in dorm rooms. But if they have apartments available to rent you may be able to have them.

But the best thing to do is call and ask first.

Most of us do not even know where this college is.

I'm sure they won't mind if you take as many as you can catch. They are all over the place. They are domestic rabbits, not like the brown wild rabbits.

What would be a nice little town to live in commuting distance to Victoria University, Wellington?

I may be moving to Wellington soon, and would be working at Victoria University. I like small seaside towns, or anything near a body of water.

Can you think of any nice little sleepy town with scenery within, say 50kms of Wellington?

Having a school and possibly even a hospital would also be a plus. What would be a nice little town to live in commuting distance to Victoria University, Wellington?
First place I thought of was the suburbs/areas of Porirua such as Pukerua Bay and Plimmerton.

Takes about 25 mins on the train from there. If you are working at the pipitea campus this will be really convenient for you. Even if you are at the main Kelburn campus it is still a really quick bus ride (or cable car ride) up.

One problem is that 50km from Wellington is a long commute if you are driving and stuck on SH1. If getting the train then it would be absolutely fine. Also, public transport runs quite late (2am Friday night/Saturday morning).

The hospitals all fall under Capital and Coast Health so you have Keneperu (in Porirua), Hutt Hospital in Lower Hutt and obviously the revamped one in Wellington.

Schools 鈥?lovely little primary schools in Pukerua Bay, Papakowhai and Plimmerton. Secondary Schooling is a bit more problematic as they would either have to head up the coast to Kapiti or Paraparumu Colleges, head into Porirua (probably Aotea College, unless they went private at the new school which is part of Samuel Marsden Collegiate based in Whitby), or head to Tawa College (good school and has a lot of plimmerton/pukerua bay people) or into Wellington for the many schools there.

If you are not wanting to get public transport I personally wouldn鈥檛 go any further north than Pukerua Bay as, like I said, getting stuck along the coast road can be the pits :)

Actually, there is also Paekakariki which is lovely. As long as there are no landslips. And if that happens you are stuck in Paekakariki until it clears :)

Within Wellington there are also places you may like. Island Bay and Miramar both sprung to mind as quite villagey 鈥?the one advantage or disadvantage is that they are in Wellington (ok slightly outer suburban wellington, but wellington still) so the price of property rented or purchased is higher. What would be a nice little town to live in commuting distance to Victoria University, Wellington?
Pukerua Bay, Plimmerton and Papakowhai are nice town around Victoria University

Yes! Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast it what you may be looking for. It's about 40-50km from Wellington city. OH, East bourne is another option for you. Some parts of Porirua are alright too, but there are lots of Maoris, not that there's anything wrong with that
Petone 10km out, Pilmmerton 20km , Paremata 20km are all seaside

the south coast is ok but the wind is an issue - Lyall Bay 5km out

if you have some cash Eastbourne, Days Bay, both 20km out

paraparaumu is 50km out and really do you want to commute 2 hours plus a day? the other places are 20-30minutes from Kelburn
